"Going south on East St., after leaving Louther St., we come to the eastern end of Jail Alley, and just before reaching the Letort Spring we turn sharply to the left and there was the tannery of Mr. Jacob Shrom; on the right was the well-known tannery of Mr. Joseph Shrom; and a short distance farther to the south was the tannery of old Robert Irvine, with the entrance on East Main St., right near the railroad bridge.
