About Robert Kells II
Robert Kells was born a about 1757. He farmed at Bofealon (Buffalen) County Caven and also, from time to time, worked as a shoemaker in Ballyconnell, County Cavan. He served as a soldier (probably in the militia) during the rebellion during the 1798 Rebellion. He died about 1834, aged 77. He married Margaret Wood of Ardue (Ardew), County Cavan about 1784 and they had 3 daughters and 7 sons.
Additional information: Farmer & shoemaker. Served as a soldier in the Irish rebellion of 1798 at the battle of Tara near Ballinamuck along with his brothers Andrew, Ralph & Richard. In the old homestead at Killenaff are displayed the weapons used, a Queen Anne flintlock, two swords, two horse pistols, two pikes and twelve bayonets. Fought in the Irish Rebellion of 1798 Robert worked as a farmer and sometimes a bootmaker in Ballyconnell. Settled at Buffalen where they had a family of 7 sons and 3 daughters. This family together with that of Thomas Kells and Alice Forster were the ancestors of most of the Kells who emigrated to Canada, USA, New Zealand and Australia.
