Robert Moryson

Note: Jane Eltonhead (1621-1660), (daughter of Richard Eltonhead, gent (1580-1664), and his wife Anne Sutton (1590-1654)) who was born at Eltonhead in Lancashire. Her first husband was Capt Robert Moryson, and as his widow married in 1649 to Cuthbert Fenwick, gent (1614-1655). Cuthbert Fenwick was likely the person of that same name born in 1614 in Ponteland Parish, Northumberland, to John Fenwick and Jenneta Pye. Fenwick Manor [2000-acre tract in Resurrection Hundred, Saint Mary's County (then Calvert County)] was surveyed in 1651 for Cuthbert, and granted with Court Baron privileges.

Colonel Moryson was preceded to Virginia by his two brothers — Richard and Robert Moryson, who also commanded at Point Comfort, and after Major Moryson, held commission about 1664.

Robert Moryson had command in 1641 of the fort at Point Comfort in the absence of his brother and was Lieutenant thereof in 1645. (Hening, I, 320.) In York County records letters of administration were granted to Jane Moryson on the estate of Robert Moryson, October 25, 1647. He died without issue.
