About Robert Wright Rea
Robert "Robin" Right Rea was a Presbyterian elder for 50 years. He was home educated, and had an apprenticeship under James Harris to be a wheelwright. He also served in the Revolutionary War under Harris, and named his first son after him.
He enlisted Nov 1778 served 6 weeks in Capt James Harri's NC Company,then served 3 months in Capt Wiley's Co. and was in an engagement on the Catawba River. Finally, he enlisted again in Apr 1781 in Capt Thomas Shelby's Co and was involved in "Snipes Defeat at the Horseshoe" . He was Sergeant, Capt. and Colonel at the end of the War. Abt 1816 he sold all his property , including slaves, and moved to Indiana. From Daughters of American Revolution vol 68 page 86 Robert Rea (1761-1852) served, 1777-81, as a private from North Carolina under Captains James Harris, Wiley, Thomas Shelby, William Hutchinson, and Samuel Martin, Colonels Henderson and William Polk. He was placed on the pension roll, 1833, North Carolina. He was born in Pennsylvania, removed to North Carolina, and died in Madison, Ind.
He grew up in Mecklenburg County, NC in Providence Township (now renamed Matthews, NC.) He then moved to Buncombe County, NC, then to Ripley County, IN (near New Marion), and finally to Madison (Jefferson Co.), Indiana.
