About Robert Larry Redbird, Sr.

Robert Larry Redbird Sr. (Stinson) was born to Violet Hawzipta and Ernest Emhee Redbird on July 22, 1939, in Lawton. Funeral wil be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Watchetaker Hall, Comanche Nation Complex, with Ted Mercer of Grace Christian Fellowship, officiating.

Robert Redbird Sr. died Sunday, March 6, 2016.

Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Watchetaker Hall, with Anthony Williams of Christ Gospel Church officiating. He was raised in the Gotebo / Mountain View area. He attended Fort Sill Indian School and Okmulgee Technical College in Okmulgee, where he received certification in mechanics and welding. After he finished his training at Okmulgee, he then became a world-renowned Native American artist.

Robert and Joquetta were united in marriage for 56 years on July 27, 1960, in Hobart. Robert was a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma, the Kiowa Gourd Clan, and he was the agent and founder of the United Indigenous Nation's Dance Society. He also founded and established the Tabernacle of Deliverance, Inc. ministry a non-profit organization. He and his wife Joquetta were both ordained ministers under the International Pentecostal Holiness Organization out of Oklahoma City.

Former Gov. Brad Henry proclaimed "Robert Redbird Day on June 7, 2003. Robert was awarded the Humanitarian award, Southern California motion picture award, and Native American Artist of the Year award, among the numerous awards and citations he received throughout his career.

He loved to travel, sing, dance and enjoyed Michael Jackson songs and most of all being around his family.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents: Ernest Emhee Redbird and Violet Hawzipta; three brothers: John Henry Redbird, Marvin Redbird and Melvin Redbird; six sisters: Ramona Parks, Geraldine Aragon, Carol Sue Redbird, Aileen Redbird, LaDonna Redbird and Sonja Kay Redbird; and one granddaughter, Priscilla Hunter.

He is survived by brother, Donald Lee Emhee Redbird of Sun Valley, Ariz.; wife, Joquetta Redbird of the home; and Sara Ann Chappell of Honolulu; Darlene Redbird Hummingbird and companion Leon Delgarito of Chandler Ariz.; Vivian Antonio and companion Kendrick Longhat of Anadarko; Robert Redbird Jr. and wife Ruby Redbird of Anadarko; Steven Redbird and companion Mary Chasenah of Lawton; Jennifer Redbird and companion Song Park of Lawton; William Redbird and wife Tina Arrates of Towoac, Colo.; Tonia Redbird and companion Myron Swift of Lawton; Cora Haunpo and companion Joel Roulain of Lawton; Terry Crounse and husband George Crounse of Cedar Hill, Texas; Patty Redbird and companion Lonnie Debartolo of Lawton; Dawn Redbird Leal and husband Santiago Leal of Lawton; Crystal Redbird Bigpond and husband Jacob Bigpond of Lawton; Anna Redbird Beach and husband Arnold Beach of Sho Low, Ariz.; James Redbird and wife Jennifer Valdez Redbird of Anadarko; and Barbara Palmer and husband Todd Palmer of Lebanon, Ohio; 55 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and other loved ones.

He will be forever missed and never forgotten.

The family will share a meal with all friends and loved ones after the service at Watchetaker Hall, Comanche Nation Complex, Lawton.

Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons.
