John’s parents are usually given as Robert Vining and Mary, of Wincanton England, owner of the White Horse Inn. I have not seen any old references making this connection -- everyone seems to derive this fact from the 1980 Barnes book. Savage calls him simply John of Weymouth (Mass), and makes no connection to Wincanton England
