Son of Walter McCrory & Gladys Spotts Nicholson. Husband of Audrey Mona Herzberg (ma. 30 Aug 1947).
Rollin John "Mac" McCrory, 70, died Wednesday, November 22, 1995, at his home.
Mr. McCrory was born July 21, 1925 in Milwaukee, Wisc. He was the son of Walter and Gladys McCrory. After graduating as valedictorian of his high school class, he volunteered for and successfully completed the naval aviation and flight training program and achieved the rank of Lt. JG. At the end of World War II, he entered Purdue University and in three years received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with highest honors.
His professional career include serving as research project manager and director of South American programs at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio, vice president of engineering, research and development at Gilbarco, Inc. and later, executive vice president of the parent, Gilbert and Barker Company. Upon retirement from Gilbarco in 1982, he founded Dymark Company, the manufacturer of Mr. Mac's home repair products, which was subsequently sold to Macklanburg-Duncan Inc. in 1992. He also served on the board of directors of two publicly held high technology companies, Syntellect, Inc. and Arizona Instruments, Inc.
Community service included: Mayor Pro-Tem of Worthington, Ohio; the board of the Greensboro Symphony, Eastern Music Festival, UNC-G Excellence Fund, N.C. A & T Industry Advisory Group and president of the Friends of the Library at UNC-Greensboro, member of the Conversation Club, Kiwanis Club and First Presbyterian Church. Mac was an avid open-ocean sailor and tennis player. He established the Namaskar Foundation that has developed into an awards program for outstanding graduating engineering students at N.C. A & T University.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; children, Kay McCrory Winslow of Durham, Linda McCrory Sebastian of Raleigh, Philip McCrory and Patrick McCrory, both of Charlotte; eight
grandchildren; his 98 year old mother, Gladys McCrory of Ft. Myers, Fla. and sister, Eileen Thorne of Seattle, Wash.
The family will be at home 7-8:30 tonight.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. Visitation will follow at the home.
