About Rollo Clement Baker

National War Archives Australia: Studio portrait of 6842 Driver Rollo Clement Baker, 8th Field Ambulance who was a 25 year old commercial traveller from Yorketown, South Australia when he enlisted on 21 June 1915. He embarked for overseas from Melbourne on 10 November 1915 aboard HMAT Ascanius. After serving in the Middle East with the 15th Field Ambulance, he went on to serve on the Western Front with the 12th Field Artillery Brigade. He was gassed in Belgium on 2 November 1917 and evacuated to England for medical treatment and then later evacuated to Australia, arriving on 22 January 1919. During the Second World War, he served as a Private with 3 Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps from 5 June 1942 until 17 September 1944. One of 131 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the First World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
