Ronald served on the Western Front with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade during World War One. After serving 2 years and 14 days, Ronald was discharged as “no longer physically fit for service on account of illnesses contracted while on active service.” He recovered and lived on, on the rugged shores of Wellington until his death on the 10th May 1982.
