About Rosario Desimone, Sr

Longtime power figure ran his rackets quietly from the county section of Los Angeles. Referred to respectfully as the chief or Pappa Rosario, Desimone stayed out of the city section after arriving in Los Angeles from Pueblo, Colorado. Desimone found peace and prosperity in Downey, California and a rare occasion it was when the public's unwanted gaze was cast in his direction. Such as the time gangland figures fired upon Joseph Ardizzone and Little Jimmy Basile as the two left a meeting at Desimone's Downey home.

The swift and deadly attack left Basile face down in the Downey sand as the ever dangerous Ardizzone though seriously wounded, retreated to the safety of the Desimone residence. Desimone his son Leon, "a Stanford grad," and nephew Simone Scozzari were questioned and later released. Desimone continued to look after his successful import/export business operated in conjunction with Bakersfield's powerful DiGiorgio outfit. Desimone's success can be measured by the fruit he produced, one of which was the aforementioned Dr. Leon Desimone and his brother Frank an influential defense attorney whose career was derailed by unfounded accusations of mafia involvement.

Pappa Rosario ran his segment of the Los Angeles county underworld with an iron fist until his death in July 1946. Jack Dragna was reputed to have succeeded Desimone fostering close ties with Desimone's son Frank who served as the L.A., families legal consultant.
