Rose was a vey active Quaker in Sandwich and occasionally persecuted for it.

Rose Allen was born in 1610 in Bridgewater, Somerset, England.  Her parents were George ALLEN the Elder and [__?__]

She married about 1628 in Weymouth, Dorset, England to Joseph Holloway (Holley). He was born in 1605 in West Anglia, an area north of London, England.  . Joseph is listed on the roll of The “Elizabeth and Ann” which left London, England, arriving in Massachusetts Bay. Registration was open between 13 April – 14 May 1635. Her master was Robert Cooper. (sometimes Cowper) … #87 Holloway Jo. 21,   Joseph died in Dec 1645 in Sandwich, Mass.

After Joseph died, she married  William Newland 19 May 1648 Sandwich, Mass. Rose died in 1691 in Sandwich, Mass.

Children of Rose Allen and Joseph Holloway (first husband) are as follows: Sarah Holloway, born about 1644 at Barnstable, Massachusetts and died about 1675 in Shrewsbury, New Jersey; Joseph (1639- 1692); Mary (1641-1703); Experience (1645- ); Hopestill (1646-1715).

Children of Rose Allen and William Newland (second husband) are as follows: Maria “Mercy” (1649- ); Rose (1651-1683); Elizabeth (1653-1658).

Called to give evidence against John Ellis in 1644 when he was charged with fornication. Ellis was found guilty and sentenced to the whipping post, despite the fact that he and his wife were by then married. (NEHGR 119:163)

William Newland married Rose Holloway on May 19, 1648. On April 16, 1649, Mary Newland was born to William and Rose, which would mean that Mary was conceived around the time of William and Rose's marriage day, considering a normal gestation period (n.b. a first child is often born later than the ninth month, even sometimes bordering on the tenth). We know from the records that Newland also had another daughter, but there is no mention of a name or birthdate in the records.

The following is taken from The Allen Family Home Page by JackMacDonald:

"Rose Allen, the eldest daughter of George Allen and his first wife, was born in about 1609/10 in England. Rose was apparently married twice during her life. She married first to a man named Joseph Holway (also written Holloway). Joseph, who was a millwright by trade, is thought to have been born in about 1605 in England."

"Sometime after arriving in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Joseph and Rose settled for a short period at Dorchester (now within Suffolk County, Massachusetts). In about 1637, however, they moved to the newly established settlement of Sandwich in the New Plymouth Colony of Massachusetts (now within Barnstable County, Massachusetts), where they appear to have resided for the remainder of their lives.

While residing at Sandwich, Rose became very active in the Quaker movement and was often persecuted for her beliefs. Joseph Holway died at Sandwich in 1647."
