Roy Paul Gates, Jr

Mr. Roy Paul Gates, Jr., age 91, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, in Miramar Beach, Fla. He was born July 25, 1921, in New York, N.Y., to Roy Gates Sr. and Irene Estey Gates.

Mr. Gates was a resident of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., for 15 years moving from Dallas, Texas. He was a veteran of WWII serving his country in the United States Army, as a second lieutenant in the 101st Air Borne Division Company E. He was a member of the Bike Club and Camel Club in Santa Rosa Beach.

Mr. Gates is preceded in death by his parents and one son-in-law, Harry Richard Dannaker.

Mr. Gates is survived by his two daughters, Anne Dannaker of Westchester, Pa., and Hellen Jane Martin and husband, R.D., of Lake Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Sean Richard Dannaker and wife, Sheri, and Michael James Dannaker and wife, Doris; and one great-granddaughter, Mia.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at the Camel Club; 247 East Hewitt Road, Santa Rosa beach, FL 32459.

The marriage of Miss Virginia Scott, daughter of Mrs. Frank M. Guerlin of Syracuse, and Charles E. Scott 2nd of this city, to Lieut. Roy P. Gates Jr., son of Mrs. Irene Gates of Syracuse and Roy P. Gates Sr., Washington, was held on Aug. 11 in the chapel at Fort Knox, Ky. The bride was graduated from Nottingham High school and attended Syracuse university, where she was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. The bridegroom was graduated from Texas A. and M. college and ls now stationed at Fort Knox as a member of the student officers' group.
