About Roy W Snavely
Fourth degree electrical burns received on the night of Saturday, May 20, while doing electric repair work following the severe storm that caused considerable damage in Lebanon County, resulted in the death of Roy Snavely, 32 years old, of 635 South Seventh street, at the Good Samaritan hospital this morning at 9:15 o'clock where he had been a patient since the accident. Snavely was severely burned aloft a pole doing repair work while in the employ of the Lebanon division of the Metropolitan-Edison Company, in the vicinity of Frystown where electric lines had been damaged. While Snavely was atop the pole he came in contact with live wires carrying 13,000 volts. He remained aloft the pole for some time until a fellow workman arrived from Myerstown and removed him to the ground then to the Good Samaritan Hospital where he was admitted at 12:30 o'clock Sunday morning, May 21. His right arm was badly burned and information received from electrical experts the charge went through his body burning his left thigh. The shock of the burns contributed to hasten his death, Dr. W. H. Means, staff surgeon at the Good Samaritan hospital, stated. Snavely made a gallant battle for life. He had an abundance of vitality and stamina and, until he breathed his last, the injured man had control of all his faculties. Members of his family today said he was a devoted husband and father of a home-loving nature and always cheerful. He loved his children, a daughter, Pearl, 12 years old, and a son, Jackie, 2 years old, who daily during his confinement in the hospital looked for their "daddy" to play with them. Snavely was a man of clean habits and living and attended the Salem Lutheran church and Sunday school. He was not affiliated with any lodges or fraternal orders. For twelve years he was employed by the Metropolitan-Edison company as a trouble man. He was a faithful employee and was held in high esteem by his fellow workmen and employers. This was the third loss by death to the deceased's widow, Verda McGill, in five years. Besides the above named widow and children the following survive: Parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Snavely, Lebanon; sisters and brothers, Mrs. Elmer Levitt, Yonkers, N. Y.; Mrs. Eva Makris, Lebanon; Rose, Kathryn, Irene, George Jr., Harry and Charles, all of Lebanon. [Lebanon Daily News, May 29, 1933, Page 1 & 4]
