PEOPLE OF OUR TOWN - Intimate Sketches of Well Known Victorians
RUBIN FRELS, Victoria and South Texas theatre owner, was born at Frelsburg, Colorado County, November 19, 1887, the son of William G. Frels, deceased, who was prosperous farmer of Colorado County, and Mrs. Margaret Leyendecer Frels of Yorktown, both natives of Frelsburg, which was named for their ancestors.
Mr. Frels spent his early life in Frelsburg and attended the rural schools there. He left Frelsburg in 1906 to become a rural mail carrier at New Ulm in the adjoining county of Austin, and serviving in that capacity until 1916, when he started in the show business in New Ulm.
Mr. Frels now owns eight theatres in seven cities, two in Victoria and one each in Cuero, Yorktown, Columbus, Bellville, Sealy and Goliad. All are talkies and represent an investment of great magnitude.
