Ruth Barnes was born in Farmington, Connecticut Colony, in 1692[1]. She was the daughter of Deacon Thomas Barnes and Mary Jones[2].

Ruth married, in 1716, Stephen Andrews (of Benjamin Andrews and Mary Smith). They settled in Southington, CT, south-west of "Cemetery Hill"[3]. They had 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls:

Josiah b. 1718
Thomas b. 1720
Ruth b. 1730
Desire b. 1732
"North America Family Histories" only lists Josiah, Thomas and Ruth as their children[4]. However, several Ancestry users have reported that Desire, born 1732, was also a daughter of Stephen Andrews and Ruth Barnes. Finding definitive sources, however, has proven difficult.

To add to the difficulty, Desire's maiden name is often confused to be Metcalf, as that was her name when she married Jacob Galusha in 1767. However, it has been documented that Desire first married, about 1752, a sea captain of the last name Metcalf. He died at sea, making her a widow about 1760. Her 2nd husband, Jacob Galusha, was a patriot in the Revolutionary War[5], and in a SAR document showing Jacob as an ancestor, Desire is documented to have a maiden name of Andrews[6].

Hopefully we can find additional source material to back up the claim that Stephen and Ruth are Desire's parents. What we do know is that they were all part of the Connecticut Colony, and the timelines do match up.

Not much else is know about Ruth Barnes. She passed away in 1756, at the age of 63 years[7][8].
