John Brown, son of Francis and Mary (Johnson) Brown was born in 1665. He married Ruth Huse at Newbury, Massachusetts, August 27, 1683.[2][3]
John Brown and Ruth Huse and had the following known children:

- Thomas,
- Joseph,
- Ru?? (page torn) and
- Abel.[1]
Some of John Brown's family was taken captive by the Indians in October 1695; they were later rescued, but most did not survive their wounds.[3] Per one source, John's wife Ruth died between 1695-1698, perhaps of injuries sustained in the Indian attack.

Research Notes
According to one source, John and Ruth's daughter, Ruth, married John Butler October 10, 1714.[5] However, according to a different source, this John Brown who married Ruth Huse, had a daughter Ruth who was born in 1695, and died unmarried at Newbury, in 1744. In her will she gave her estate to Ruth Brown, daughter of her cousin, Joshua Brown of Haverhill.[4]
