Ruth Jones Conrad, 93, a native of Randolph County, and a resident of Kernersville, N.C., departed this life late Monday evening, Jan. 4, 2010, in Britthaven of Kernersville.

She was born Friday, Dec. 29, 1916, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late William Morgan Jones and Iva Leotta Carpenter Jones.

She was twice married. First, to Roy Byrd. Second, on Oct. 2, 1937, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Frank Conrad, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, Floyd Truman "Sonny" Conrad and wife, Konnie, of Greensboro, N.C.; one daughter, Patricia Ann Byrd Bonfield and husband, Charles, of Delray Beach, Fla.; and nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death were four brothers, Styvisan M., Sandusky Washington, Cladis J. and Paul Morgan Jones; and three sisters, Beulah Aretta Crummett, Pauline Nellie Sharp and Josephine Leigh Conrad.

Ruth attended the schools of Randolph County, was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith. She enjoyed sewing and bowling

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Saturday, Jan. 9, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Jonas Johnson Jr. will officiate and interment will follow in the Mingo Cemetery at Mingo.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, West Virginia Chapter, 1111 Lee St., E., Charleston, W.Va. 25301. Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Ruth Jones Conrad.
