MRS. RUTH BARQUIST, 76, DIES
Mrs. Frank A. (Ruth) Barquist, 76, longtime resident of the Stanhope community, died Monday morning at Hamilton County Hospital following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday (today) at the Methodist Church in Stanhope with the Rev. George Brighton officiating and with burial in South Marion Cemetery near Stratford.
Ruth Ida Elvira Soderstrom, daughter of Arvid and Ida Christina (Appleholm) Soderstrom, was born Feb. 12, 1892, on a farm east of Boxholm, and was reared and educated in the Boxholm community.
She was united in marriage to Albert Harvey Johnson on Feb. 23, 1910 in Boone County, Iowa and to this union three daughters were born: Mrs. Leonard (Irene) Leigh of Socorro, New Mexico, Mrs. Earling (Bernice) Hanson of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Irwin (Doris) Hokel of Spencer.
She married second to Peter Jake Kurtz on Feb. 23, 1920 in Boone, Iowa. Peter died on March 7, 1925.
She was united in marriage to Frank A. Barquist on May 26, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa, and the following year, Mr. and Mrs. Barquist built a new home in Stanhope where they resided for many years.
In addition to the three daughters, she is survived by six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Otto (Lydia) Frecke of Gowrie, Mrs. Leslie (Nyna) Renquist of Des Moines, Arthur Soderstrom, Sedalia, Mo., and Rev. Earl Soderstrom of Cincinnati, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Sept. 26, 1950; by two sons, who died in infancy; by her parents; six brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Barquist was baptized and was confirmed in the Swedish Methodist Church at Boxholm. She was a member of the Stanhope Methodist Church and was an active member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the church.
