About Ruth Richler
RCMP in New Brunswick are still trying to find out how a Montreal couple fell from a 30-metre cliff.
Howard Richler, a columnist for the Montreal Gazette, and his wife, Ruth, were found on a rocky beach on Grand Manan Island. Ruth Richler died in the fall, while Howard Richler is now in stable condition in hospital.
RCMP Corporal Ren Tessier says Richler was talking after having surgery. Witnesses say he suffered a badly broken leg and had a deep cut on his head.
Tessier says he doesn't know why they left a nearby hiking trail, or how they ended up falling off the cliff. Richler told one of his rescuers the couple had become lost in the heavily wooded area.
