SWAN, IOWA

Ruth Adeline Nutter Shera, 86, passed away in Chandler, Arizona on November 19, 2015 after battling lung cancer. Ruth was born on February 23rd, 1929 the youngest child born to William and Estella Nutter of Swan, Iowa.

She spent most of her life in the Swan area, attended Swan grade school and high school where she met her childhood sweetheart Herbert Deane Shera. They were married on October 4th, 1946 one day before Herb left for his overseas service in the Army. Ruth graduated high school, valedictorian of her class, in May 1947. When Herb returned from the service in 1948 they began their family life having seven children and fifty three years of marriage until Herb's passing in 2000.

Ruth worked for Meredith Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa starting in the early 1950's until her retirement in 1992. She loved motorcycle riding, traveling and camping in the early years. Her many interests included music, being an accomplished pianist, sewing, crochet and crafts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Rena Kay Anthony, her son Philip Glen Shera, her parents, her brothers Carl and William and sisters Edna Muffler, Dessie Thomas and Irene Feight. She is survived by her sister Wilma Crone of Indianola, daughters Frances (Stephen) Rowe of Swan, Diana Shera of Des Moines, Marcy Pettyjohn of Indianola, Hallie (Cary) Bergman of Swan and her son Kurt (Tonya) Shera of Phoenix, Arizona, ten grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life gathering for family and friends and a grave side service will be held on dates to be announced. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts be made to the American Legion Post 108, 101 N Jefferson Street, Pleasantville, Iowa.

Her life and time with us on this earth will be remembered fondly and with love. She was a special lady.
