Obituary:
Gunnery Sergeant William Edward Rumbley, 84, of 612 W. Main St., Elizabeth City, NC, died Monday, June 17, 2013, at his residence.
He was the husband of Willie Dail Rumbley for nineteen years.
Mr. Rumbley was a Veteran who served his country and retired from the United States Marines.
He was Chaplain of the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post #6060; active in the Masonic Lodge in Arizona; a member of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in Los Angeles, CA and a volunteer at the Albemarle Hospital.
Mr. Rumbley is survived by two step daughters, Diane Smithson of Garner, NC and Marlene Bailey of Raleigh, NC; a step son Marvin Gilden of Elizabeth City; a step daughter in law Debra Partridge of King, NC; seven step grandchildren Andrea, Christina, Johnny, Renee, Kim and Melissa and Paige who were very special because they called him "Granddaddy Bill"; nine step great grandchildren, two nephews, Bobbie Rumbley of Ayden, NC and Tommy Rumbley of OK; a great niece and two great nephews.
A graveside service with military honors provided by William Clarence Jackson VFW Post #6060 will take place Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at New Hollywood Cemetery with Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at Twiford Memorial Chapel and at other times at the residence.
