Albert moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 1857.[14] At some point before the outbreak of the Civil War he met the sophisticated daughter of a prominent Louisville banking family, Sally Moore Hunt.[15] The two were married on April 24, 1865, in Christ Church Cathedral. Their daughter Ellen was born on March 4, 1870. Tragedy struck once again when Sally died on March 7, 1872. A single entry in Albert’s diary on the day following the death of his wife read “I have had happiness.”[16]
