Sam Mannos 1938 ~ 2009 Sam Mannos, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend finished his life on Sunday, September 6, 2009. He died at home in Sandy, UT in his sleep of a heart attack.He was born September 25, 1938 in Rock Springs, WY to Tom J. and Anna Xidas Mannos. Sam graduated East High School in Salt Lake City, UT in 1958. Sam had a successful career in the mortgage lending business and traveled throughout the U.S. setting up branches. He retired after 25 years in Denver, CO. Sam did everything well. He was the world's greatest hobbyist and overall fixit man. He had a passion for cooking and spent hours creating wonderful dishes. He delighted in sharing his creations with family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing in the summer at Flaming Gorge. He had perfected his golf game. He loved studying about the game and getting the newest equipment. He started an at home business making golf nick nacks called Sam's Golf Stuff. He was recently mentioned on TV in Palm Springs featuring his famous pictured ball markers. He was an archery Senior Gold Medalist and had recently taken it up again. Sam was a master on the computer; he was a pilot and a beautiful photographer. Sam was very proud of his Greek heritage and was fluent in the Greek language. Sam married his childhood sweetheart in December of 2001 after reuniting at a high school reunion. They had eight wonderful years together. He adored his Q. Sam and Sue enjoyed their winters in Rancho Mirage, CA where they have a membership at the Springs Country Club. Sam was currently serving on the board of directors and most proudly headed up the men's golf group. He loved his friendships there and they loved him! Sam and Sue loved their travels to Cabo San Lucus, Mexico. They had an especially wonderful trip to Greece with brother John and Marghie on a quest to find relatives. He is survived by his wife Susan Turner Mannos, brother John Mannos (Marghie) and a longtime companion and best friend Molly (a Chow Chow mix) of Salt Lake City, UT. Grandchildren, Ryann and Lauren Mannos of Yakima, WA. Susan's children Terel Shields (Jeff), Jack Turner, Sidney Katz (Bob) and Trapper Turner (Heather). His step-children and nine grandchildren loved him dearly. Preceded in death by his only biological son Todd Sam Mannos (7/13/01), his parents and brothers Tom and Nick (Jeannette). A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 5 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 So. Salt Lake City, UT 84108. Friends may call Thursday from 4-5 p.m. prior to the service. In early November there will be a celebration of life at the Springs Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA.
