About Samuel Bacon
During the Civil War, Jane didn't want Sam to go to war. However, on 19 Nov 1864 he joined the 91st Regiment of Indiana Volunteers. While in Camp Carrington in Indianapolis he contracted the measles. He was brought back home by his father, Socrates Bacon.
In March of 1865, he rejoined his regiment which was then stationed in North Carolina.
In April of 1865 he was transferred to Company D of the 124th Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered out at Greensboro, NC on 31 August 1865. When he arrived home in September of 1865, he had a new daughter, Mary Louise, my great-grandmother. Mary Bacon McCormick
