About Samuel Barker
NOTES FROM JAMES MCMASTERS ANCESTRY FOUND ON-LINE: James McMasters
In 1685 Samuel BARKER bought 200 acres of land in New Castle County, called Barker's Bridge or Barker's Landing. This Samuel BARKER, immigrant, had two grandsons named Samuel and at least one great grandson with the same name. And these Samuels lived in the same neighborhood as did James MCMASTERS and his family, in North Carolina, and intermarried with some of the same families known to the MCMASTERS. James also had a son named Samuel.
Although Barker's Bridge has not been located, it seems to have been somewhere in the area between Christine Creek and White Clay Creek where John CANN settled and where William, John's son and probable father of Susanna CANN, lived. Both John CANN and Samuel BARKER appear in the same deed.
"Charles RUMSEY.... obtained in 1676, a grant of 570 acres lying on Red Clay and White Clay Creeks. He disposed of various portions of this and on the 26th Jan. 1680 he sold 100 acres to Samuel BARKER, who conveyed the same tract to John CANN, of Bristol in 1682." (From Sharf's History of Delaware)
