About Samuel Basse
Twin to Humphrey
On March 22 1622 Chief Opechancanough of the Powhatan Confederacy led a coordinated attack all across the colony of Virginia, including Basse's Choice, the Basse family plantation in Warrosquyoake. Nathaniel and Mary Basse were in England when the attack occurred. The house was burned to the ground, Samuel's twin brother Humphrey died in the attack, and his younger brother John was 'rescued' by friendly Nansemond Indians. The family would not know that John lived until years later. Samuel himself did not die in the attack.
According to the List of those Living in Virginia dated Feb 16 1628 Samuel Basse was still alive and living at Basses Choice, so he did not die 3/22/1622 as previously entered
