SAMUEL CLESTER
The subject of this sketch was born Dec. 29, 1843, near Masadon, in Mercer county, Ohio and died at his home near Zyba, Kansas, April 3, 1908, aged 64 years, 4 months, and 4 days.
He was married to Sarah E. Cecil on Jan. 26, 1865, who died July 21, 1894. Six children were born to this union one of whom died in infancy. Those remaining are: Mary Ellen Cryder of Peck, Kans.; William Thomas of Belle Plain, Kans.; Samuel Emery of Okeene, Okla.; John, George and Roy also of Peck, Kans.
The deceased came to Kansas in the early seventies and took a homestead 4 miles west of his late home. Later he lived in Wichita, then moved on the farm joining the home place on the east; next he moved to Illinois but soon returned to Kansas where he purchased the place on which he died.
Funeral services were held at his late home Saturday afternoon at _ o’clock. Interment at Porter Cemetery, 4 miles west of his home. A.G. Alexander of Belle Plaine conducted the services.

Samuel "Sam" Clester was born 29 Dec 1843 in Macedon, Mercer County Ohio; one of ten children born to William and Ellen (Gibson) Clester.
Sam was united in marriage 26 Jan 1865 in Mercer County, Ohio with Sarah Elizabeth Cecil; daughter of Brazil and Mary (Plummer) Cecil.
Sam and Sarah were the parents of six children:
1. Mary Ellen born 1865 married Jonathan Milton Cryder
2. William (Will) Thomas born 1868 married Caroline Elizabeth Clewell
3. Samuel "Emery" born 1871 married May Virginia Foster
4. Arthur E. (1878-1879)
5. John Albert "Bert" born 1880 married Emma Shields
6. George LeRoy "Roy" born 1884 married Anna Rogers
The Clester family history in Sumner County, Kansas dates back to 1874 when Samuel and Sarah brought the first Clester family to Sumner County from Mercer County, Ohio and took a homestead 4 miles west of his late home. Later they lived in Wichita, then moved on the farm joining the home place on the east. Next they moved to Illinois, but soon returned to Kansas where they purchased the place on which Sam died.
Samuel Clester, a farmer, owned 160 acres SE 4 of Section 19, Township 30 South Range / East in London Township, Sumner County, Kansas - 1885.
Sarah passed away 21 Jul 1894 at her home near Zyba, Sumner County, Kansas at the age of 52 years. She was laid to rest in Porter Cemetery, London Township, Sumner County, Kansas with her son, Arthur.
Samuel passed away 03 Apr 1908 at his home near Zyba at the age of 64 years, 4 months and 4 days. He was laid to rest in Porter Cemetery with his wife and son Arthur.
