Samuel Drew, b. Shapleigh, Maine, was a Revolutionary soldier from Plymouth, New Hampshire. His first enlistment was July 11, 1775, at which time his age was given as 19. This enlistment was with Captain James Osgood's Company of Rangers. He re-enlisted on 26 November 1775 in the field in Captain Charles Nelson’s company, Major Brown’s detachment. This detachment took part in the attack on Quebec, and the retreat in May and arrival at Crown Point in July 1776. He was discharged on 31 December 1777.
On 29 Jan 1779 at Plymouth, New Hampshire, he married Betsey Webber, born 1753 at Methuen, Massachusetts. She was the widow of Lt. Amos Webster. In 1785, they settled a mile north of the Locke neighborhood, in Bristol, New Hampshire, on the old road to the Bridgewater meetinghouse, long since abandoned. He was the first settler on this farm, and here the first town meeting of Bridgewater was held in 1788. He spent his last days in the family of his son, Samuel, in Northern New York.
