Revolutionary War Pension of Samuel Givens

Document found in the Revolutionary War Pension file of Samuel Givens dated May 28, 1931.

Dear Sir,

You are advised that it appears from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim, W. 743, that Samuel Givens was born in 1762 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

While residing in said Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, he enlisted September 1, 1780, and served two months as private in Captain Benjamin Lowery’s and John Harris’ companies, Colonel Davey’s North Carolina regiment, and was in a skirmish at Walkup Mills. He enlisted in December, 1780, and served six weeks as a private in Captain John Foster’s company. He enlisted April 13, 1781, and served in Captain John Foster’s company, Colonel Henry Hampton’s South Carolina regiment, was transferred to Captain Jacob Barnett’s company, Colonel Wade Hampton’s South Carolina regiment, was in the battle of Eutaw Springs and was discharged February 13, 1782.

He was allowed pension on his application executed November 12, 1832, at which time he was living in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

He died April 15, or May 6, 1846.

The soldier married May 18, 1836, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Lucinda Cook.

She was allowed pension on her application executed July 7, 1853, at which time she was living in Waxhaw, Union County, North Carolina, aged fifty-seven years.

There is no reference to children.
