Samuel John McConnel Irwin

Samuel John McConnell Irwin was born to Joel Thomas Irwin and Emily Jane Snow at a home birth on November 23, 1879, in Converse, Indiana. Samuel was educated in a public school in Howard county. Samuel married twice, first to Rhoda Langley who had a child, Archie Swing, from a previous marriage. Samuel and Rhoda were parents of seven children, Freddy (a still birth), Virgil Lee, Della Olive, Joel Thomas, James Edmund, Mary Alice and Benjamin Frederick. Rhoda Langley had stomach cancer but passed away from acute myocarditis and colitis on March 5th 1920. Samuel remarried to Edna Ardridge on March 14 1921, in Howard county, Indiana. With this union were born 8 children, 3 of which died in infancy. The other children were, Ruth Helen, John Samuel, Mary Elizabeth, Albert Lee and Sarah Olive. Edna Ardridge, the second wife of Samuel, was born in Elwood, Nebraska, the daughter of W.E. and Cora (Mitchell) Ardridge. Edna died in Kokomo, Indiana, at Americana Nursing Home. Samuel John McConnell, Rhoda and Edna Irwin were all buried in Albright Cemetery, southeast of Kokomo, in Howard county, Indiana.
