About Samuel Wilson Jaques
"Samuel W Jaques is said by his daughter, Mercy Jaques Burdick, of Rockville RI, to have been the only member of the garrison who escaped uninjured, he having killed his antagonist in a hand to hand conflict, and then fled, jumped from the wall and got away undiscovered.
Mr Burdick referring to that event, says "It was a source of grief to him in his last hours that he won his freedom by the death of one so young and beautiful."
He was born in Exeter RI, enlisted in the army when fourteen years old, and returned home after the war, a man grown. He married and lived in Exeter until his death at the age of sixty"
