At the age of 14 his father put him on a whaling vessel as a cabin boy. He followed the sea most of his life and spent most of it on the waters of all parts of the world. He was Captain of his own ships the last of his going Samuel was in boston and met susan there when she was visiting boston with her father. they were married in Father Taylor's church on hanover st boston.
