About Samuel Lewisohn
The Samuel Lewisohn Stiftung was set up in Hamburg by Leonard, Adolf, Philip and Albert, then in New York, in memory of their father, on 22/10/1890. No. 32, Kleiner Schaferkamp contained 8 subsidised flats with rented shops underneath. In exceptional cases financial assistance was given, almost unique to the inhabitants of this building. This was the last address of 44 people on the deportation transports to Theresienstadt on 11/07/1942 and 19/07/1942. At least 43 new people had arrived since22/09/1938 when the Reich Governor took over the administration. In 1942 the trust assets were compulsorily sold.
