About Samuel Walter Mankins

Son of John Bracken Mankins of Orange Co, NC and Mary Polly Sloan. The Mankins family also migrated West during the same period as the Watsons, possibly in the same group of settlers though I haven't been able to find documentation to this effect.

Though some of the Mankins family also settled in the San Benito/Monterey area and there were a number of inter-marriages between the two families, based on what I've read thus far, it would appear the Watsons may arrived in the area about a year earlier. It is assumed Mary Sloan died in the late 1830's after Samuel, her 8th child was born, as John Bracken Mankins married Matilda Gibson in June of 1839 and had 5 children, the last being born in Aug 1850 in Madison Co, AR.
