In 1791, when on a hunting trip near Gallipolis, his gun accidently discharged and shattered his right arm - it was amputated. He was on many scouting parties at that period. No particulars. Served as commissary under John Piatt of Cincinatti in War 1812. He was two or three times chosen a member of the Ohio Legislature and attended at Chillicothe and had previously served as Sheriff of Ohio County, Virginia."
When Samuel died he sent all of his children to the home of their Uncle, John Boggs, on the Scioto, Ohio, and they were reared by him.
