p. 127; S Paxton, Jr Samuel, the son of Samuel Paxton, Sr., was supposedly born in County
Antrim, Northern Ireland in 1705. At the age of about twenty-five he came with his father to America. They settled in the Marsh Creek settlement of Scotch- Irish Presbyterians, a couple of miles to the southwest of the small village of Gettysburg. This village was to be the center of tragic history over a century later during the Civil War, when thousands of Americans from North and South met in bloody battle there for three hot summer days in early July of 1863. Samuel, Jr. was twice married The name of his first wife, the mother of our Colonel Thomas Paxton. is unknown. His second wife's name was Rachel. Inall, Samuel Paxton, Jr was the father of twenty-two children. Eighteen were named in his will when he died in 1793. Four children probably pre-deceased him. His son Nathaniel was the executor of his estate. Samuel, Jr. died in Pennsylvania, no doubt at Marsh Creek.
