Disputed Parentage and Y-DNA Findings:
Many Pickerings, and FindAGrave[1], give the names of Jonathan Pickering and Jane Cromwell of Salem, Massachusetts as the parents of Samuel Pickering who lived in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. They claim that he was born in Salem, Massachusetts and moved to Bucks County, Pennsylvania, although that seems a highly unlikely route of migration in the early 1700s.
DNA tests have since proven that there are at least two unrelated lines of Pickerings: that of the Salem, Massachusetts Pickerings and that of the Bucks Co, Pennsylvania Pickerings and the DNA shows they do not match.
