Samuel J. Rolfe and his family joined the L.D.S. church very early. They lived in Nauvoo very near the Prophet's home and the children played together with his children. Samuel worked on the Nauvoo temple as a carpenter and always supported the church. Some of his sons were with the original company of pioneers and he brought his family to Utah in 1847. See Doctrine & Covenants 124: 142. Samuel Jones Rolfe is mentioned by name.
From the journal of Joseph Smith Jr.: February 1842 Samuel Rolfe washed his hands in the Font being seriously affected with a Fellon, so that the Docters thought it ought to be cut open; others said it would not be well before spring. After washing in the Font his hand healed in one week.—
