About Samuel Rosenberg

Samuel and Fannie were from Vilkovitch (Vilkaviskis) Samuel departed for the United States from Hamburg, Germany 12/13/1896 at the age of 32 on the ship named "Prussia". Upon arriving in New York on Christmas Day 1896, Samuel reportedly told the immigration officer he was starting a new life in the United States and needed a new surname. He asked the officer to recommend a good American sounding Jewish name and changed his name from Uscharsky to Rosenberg. Samuel left his wife and five children behind in Russia while he saved money to bring them over. Feige (Fannie), Sipe (Celia), Sore (Sylvia), Selig (Sol), Fischel (Phillip), Chana (Anna) arrived in the Unites States January 8, 1901 on the "Potsdam" departing from Rotterdam.

Samuel built a house in Burough Park in Brooklyn New York circa 1922 and died soon after. The address of the house is 1449 50th Street (bewteen 14th and 15th).
