Mr. Samuel Rowbottom

The death occurred, on Friday evening at the Port Fairy Hospital, of Mr Samuel Rowbottom, retired farmer, at the very great age of 96 years. Deceased, who was a native of Watford, England, came to Australia when he was 25 years of age, and had lived in Victoria for 71 years. He was twice married, and of the first family of 5, Charles, Henry & Jas. are living. There were two children of the second marriage, David being the surviving one. The old gentleman won the esteem & respect of everyone who made his acquaintance, his relations with all being of the friendliest & most honourable kind. For the past two years, he had been a paying patient at the local hospital. The remains were interred in the Port Fairy cemetery on Sunday afternoon, the cortege leaving the residence of one of his sons (James), in Cox-street. Canon Jessop read the burial service, the mortuary arrangements being carried out by Messrs Guyett & Sons.

Possibly Son: HEYWOOD. Monday.The sad and unexpected death of Mr, Samuel Rowbottom took place on Saturday morning. Deceased, who was a very old resident of this and the Macarthur district, was highly esteemed by all with whom he came into contact. About a week ago be became ill. and proceeded to Portland for medical attention. Pneumonia and pleurisy, however, developed and all that could be done was without avail. Deceased was 60 years of age, and leaves a father, wife, son, and daughter.
