Clarification on the dates of Samuel's marriages and death of his first wife Keziah Lane Smith is needed.
From A History of Marion County, South Carolina by W. W. Sellers, Esq. of the Marion Bar, R. L. Bryan Press, 1902. Seller's gives no dates, but does note that Keziah had two sons, John L. and Stephen. Seller's maintained that Keziah was the daughter of "old Osborne Lane." Supporting this, according to Ancestral Key to the Pee Dee by Mary Belle Manning Bethea, Kezia Lane, daughter of Osborne Lane, was the first wife of Samuel Smith II. Samuel and Kezia had two sons - John L. Smith and Stephen Smith.
From Seller's A History of Marion County, South Carolina Sallie Hays/Hayes was the daughter of Benjamin Hays of Hillsboro Township. Sallie was the 2nd wife of Samuel Jr. and had two sons, William Henry and Samuel Smith III along with daughters Mary Smith Roberts, Elizabeth Smith Allen, Florence Smith Moody, Ginsey Smith Ellis. (W. W. Sellers, Esq. , R. L. Bryan Press, 1902.)
