SAMUEL STAGG January 24, 1933 - December 18, 2008 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a husband, father, uncle, grand and great-grandfather, brother, son, Samuel Stagg on December 18, 2008 at the Eriksdale Hospital. Samuel was born in Dauphin River on January 24, 1933. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Mary Stagg Sr. of Dauphin River; his children, Edward (Darlene) Stagg, Margaret (Wayne) Olender, Edna (Bev) Catcheway, John Albert (Rosie) Stagg, Vera (Vernon) Cochrane and Christine Anderson; 19 grandchildren, James, Benny, Emily, Trevor, Tiffany, Tammy, Emily, Elizabeth, Kristen, Tharren, Nathaniel, Tanisha, Trinity, Samuel, Adam, Emery, Kyle, Waylon and Angel and one great-grandson Isaac Riley Catcheway; brothers, Albert (Eileen) Stagg, Norman, Melvin (Lorraine) Stagg, Chief Emery (Cheryl) Stagg; sisters, Myrtle (Stanley) Thompson, Edna (Gordon) Valen; sisters-in-law, Mary Stagg Jr. and Lorraine and one special brother-in-law Peter Beardy of Lake St. Martin. Sam was predeceased by his wife Gertrude on March 24, 1998; his dad John Stagg on November 17, 1975; his brothers, Alex John on October 10, 1974, Daniel on April 4, 1992; his son Riley on February 5, 1978 and an infant daughter in 1972. Sam and Gertrude were married on March 15, 1957 at the Anglican Church in Gypsumville, MB. Sam was a very humble and loving person and a hardworker. He taught his siblings the adventures of fishing, hunting and how to survive in the wilderness. He was a skilled fisherman and had great knowledge with how to deal with Mother Nature. He fished on the shores of Lake Winnipeg with all of his brothers and numerous fishermen friends. Sam had a lot of love and respect. With a kind heart he raised two special adopted girls of which he taught Maggie how to fish and do other jobs such as carpentry and gardening. Sam also considered Sam Sumner, Joseph Sumner and Ernest Sumner as his brothers and Mary Sumner as a sister. Sam loved to laugh and share funny stories. He lived a simple lifestyle and enjoyed it greatly. He also appreciated what he had and would help anyone in need. Samuel will always be in our hearts and remembered fondly. A wake service will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 20 at the Day of Pentecost Church at Lake St. Martin First Nation with Pastor Alex Marsden officiating.
