About Samuel W. Wilson
I expect Samuel was born in Bowdoinham, Sagadahoc, Maine, United States, though at the time of birth it might have been Lincoln County. I find a Samuel in the 1790, 1800, 1810 Census but it doesn't give the family he was living with. Might be able to find other male Williams living in Bowdoinham that might give an indication. I sent a message to the Bowdoinham Historical Society to try and get more information.
The Bowdoinham Historical Society stated that Bowdoinham's really early records (before 1800) were destroyed in a fire. In looking at the 1790 census records, they see a John Adams,(1 male > 16, 3 males < 16 4 women) but no Wilsons at all. By 1800, Adams >45 has only 2 females one >45 and 1 <16 and 2 males <16 and there are a Robert Wilson (age 26-44) with a boy 10-15 and a woman 26-44 and a Samuel Wilson (26-44) with 2 sons under 9 and 2 daughters under 9 and a woman 26-44). They checked birth records in neighboring towns Topsham and Bowdoin, but find no Samuel. There is a Samuel Wilson who married Judith and had 9 children beginning with Henry in 1818, but that doesn't fit. So unfortunately, BHS was not able to help with finding Samuel's parents.
