About Samuel Hammond Wolf
Born Samuel Hammond Wolf on March 11, 1850 in Fishertown, Bedford County, Pennsylvania to John Henry Wolf Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth Hancock. His mother died shortly after Samuel's birth. John and Margaret had four children: Margaret Ann(who married David Wisegarver), Richard, Edmund and Samuel. John then married Mary Russell. John and Mary went on to have nine more children: Sarah, John Jr., Nathan, Rebecca, Hester "Mandilla", Mary Etta, David, William and Elmer.
Samuel, who was one of Holt county's earliest settlers, came to O'Neill on Christmas Eve 1873 from Fishertown, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Wolf was formerly Sarah Jane Thompson of South County, Wisconsin, and also came to Holt county as a pioneer.
On May 31, 1877, they were the first couple to be married in the new territory, a sister of Mrs. Wolf and Thomas McEveny being wed only a few minutes later by the officiating judge who had been "Imported" from the nearest county seat which was then Antelope County, some sixty miles away.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hammond Wolf are the parents of eleven children.
