THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, May 14, 1925, Volume XLIX, Number 27, Page 12, Column 3, “DEATH ’S HARVEST. WRIGHT ”

Samuel WRIGHT was born in Coshocton County, Ohio, May 12, 1840, and died May 8, 1925, at the present home near Robison, lacking, therefore at the time of his death, just four days of being eighty-five years.

At the age of ten his father removed to Indiana and settled on Dry Branch, near the present home.

On January 23, 1862, he was married to Rebecca PARHAM, who still survives. To this union eight children were born, two of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are, namely: Allen, near Owensburg; Sarah ROBERTS, of Indianapolis; Martha KIRK, of Koleen; Albert, of Robison; Lewis, of Koleen, and Lucy PRICE, of Sullivan, Illinois.

He also leaves one sister, Martha MCBRIDE, and three half-sisters, namely: Mariah HILL, Margaret PAGE and Mahala HILL. Twenty-two grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren survive, besides a host of relatives and friends.

He united with the Christian Church in 1867 and lived a consistent Christian life. Many hours were spent in reading the Bible, as he was unable to attend church regularly. A short time before his death he sang a beautiful old psalm, the words of which were “I’m happy now, I know I’ll be, and all the friends in heaven I’ll see; I’m happy and the Lord will continue with me.”

What comforting words to leave those bereaved!

Uncle Sam, as he was called by friends and neighbors, was a man of no bad habits. No oath was even known to pass his lips. He toiled from early to late that his family might be well cared for and the only regret of his old age was he could no longer work. He taught his children to live clean upright lives. To his boys he said, “Be honest above all things.” To his girls, “Be virtuous even as your mother was virtuous.

Sixty-three years he and his good wife lived together on the old homestead, in perfect peace and harmony. They were never parted any longer than two weeks at one time, during this long period of years.

Thus we have the passing of a good man, a devoted husband and loving father. We are comforted when we know the God in whom he firmly believed, doeth all things well.

The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Ashcraft Chapel, conducted by Rev. Quince FERGUSON. Interment in Ashcraft Chapel Cemetery.
