Samuel Frederick Wyer "Sam" (1952 - 2007)
Brief overview:
Sam (55), who was a celebrity in surfing circles, and a life-saver, was shot dead in his sitting room after wrestling with an armed robber in the family home in Amanzimtoti, on 18th April 2007. He was shot in the chest and head at short range.
He was watching the South African cricket team's victory over England at the World Cup cricket tournament in the West Indies when the armed attacker invaded the home. "He was still shouting for South Africa and the next moment he was dead," said his distraught daughter.
According to Spt. Danelia Veldhuizen, the perpetrator had climbed up to a barred gate around the double-storey house's porch and gained access through an open bedroom window.
