Hillsdale – Sandra S. Cooper, 59, died peacefully at home on Thursday, June 10, surrounded by her family.
To all who knew her, Sandy was a beautiful woman, inside and out. She and her husband Jim enjoyed a uniquely close and loving relationship for more than 45 years, including 35 years of marriage.
Sandy was born and raised in Bergen County. She completed her education as a graduate of Elmira College. During the early years of their marriage, she and Jim resided in Pennsylvania and Texas, returning to Hillsdale in 1984. Sandy taught elementary grades in the Hillsdale Public Schools for 14 years. Her excellence as an educator was acknowledged by receipt of the Governor's Teacher Recognition Award in 2003. She was also a past president of the A.B. Smith School Parent Teacher Organization in Hillsdale. For several years, Sandy was an active member of the Pascack Juniors. As a senior at Pascack Valley High School, Sandy served as class president.
In addition to her Husband Jim, Sandy is survived by their sons, Bradley and Alex Cooper, sister Candace Boyle, and brother Thomas Schuette. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Phyllis Schuette and the daughter-in-law of Elwood and Marcia Cooper.
Services were held at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood and interment at Valleau Cemetery, Ridgewood. The family received their friends at Becker Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Sandy's name be made to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, P.O. Box E, 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY 10021.
