About Sara Salomonse Van Vechten

Sara was a daughter of Salomon Abelse (a.k.a. Goeweij or Goewey) and his wife Barbara Philips(e). Sara was probably born in Amsterdam in the Netherlands and emigrated to New Netherland, with her family, which settled in Beverwyck (later Albany, New York).[1][2]

She married Cornelis Teunise Van Vechten as his first wife. They were married by 27 June 1668 when Sara Salomonse (Goewey), described as the wife of Cornelis Theunisse Van Vechten, made a filing with the court in Albany regarding an inheritance that she and her siblings had received from an uncle in the Netherlands.[3]

Known children of Cornelis Van Vechten and Sara Goewey were:[4]

  • Solomon, born about 1680; married Alida Fonda.
  • Dirck, born about 1682; married Margarita Lievense.

She probably died not long after her son Dirck's birth.

Salomon Abelse (a.k.a. Goeweij or Goewey) was born in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He emigrated to New Netherland, where he was a carpenter in Beverwyck (later Albany, New York).[1][2] married Barbara Philipse.[3] They had at least six children: Sara, Philip, Jacob, Jan, David, and Lysbet.[4]

He died in New Netherland some time before 27 June 1668 when his daughter Sara Salomonse (Goewey) made a filing with the court in Albany regarding an inheritance that she and her siblings had received from an uncle in the Netherlands.[5]
