About Sarah Adams

Like her father before her Sarah working in the Shoe Making industry. Sarah was from Kennedy’s Lane Dublin and married her next door neighbour Joseph Adams in St Audoen Church in 1867. Sarah was working as a Boot Closer and her father Samuel was a Shoe Maker. The Shoe making link continued with the marriage of Joseph’s sister Jane to William Bradfield who was a Boot To-Curter and his father, also William, was a Shoe Maker. Joseph and Sarah lived in 9 Nicholas St and had Jane, their first of many children baptised in St Audoen in 1868. They then moved to 42 New Row and had their son Richard baptised in St Lukes. Samuel, Sarah, John, Robert and Isabella followed and it isn’t until 1899 that their daughter Sarah is recorded at 77 Lr Clanbrassil St upon her marriage to Frederick Cuthbertson in 1899. Joseph must have died shortly after that marriage as the1901 Census has his wife Sarah listed as a widow living at the same address with 4 children at home. He would probably have only been in his early 50s. Sarah stayed living at Lr Clanbrassil St and is listed on the 1911 Census as living there with Isabella and nephew Richard Jordan.
