JOHN ASTWOOD (or Atwood) (1609-1654) was first in Roxbury. He came over on the ship Hopewell, Captain Bundocke, in the spring of 1636, aged 26 years; was a husbandman from Stanstead Abbey, County Herts. While living in Roxbury he had a wife, Martha, who may have come over on the same ship. He was made a freeman March 3, 1635-6, removed to Milford and there in 1640 married Mrs. Sarah (Bryan) Baldwin (1602-1669), widow of Sylvester Baldwin (d. 1638). He was chosen representative in 1643 and '44, an Assistant of the Colony at a later date, and a Commissioner of the United Colonies in 1653. As an agent for the Colonies to "petition for aid to reduce the Dutch," he went to England in 1654 and died at Aberthy, Eng. in July (?) 1654. Will made June 27; probabed August 31, 1654.

SYLVESTER BALDWIN (SYLVESTER1) died 21 Jul 1638. He married SARAH BRYAN 1620. She died 1669 in Milford, Connecticut. Notes for SYLVESTER BALDWIN: Before coming to America, lived at St. Leonards in Aston-Clinton, near Dundridge, where he owned the "Chapel Farm." He married Sarah Bryan, early in 1620. In 1638, Sylvester and his wife Sarah and six living children, sailed for America in the ship Martin. They belonged to the "New Haven Company." Sylvester died on the passage, "in mid ocean." July 21, 1638. His will was admitted to probate, in Boston, where the ship Martin arrived. He left a large estate. His widow and six children settled with the rest of the emigrating company in New Haven. In 1643, "the Widow Baldwin" was recorded in New Haven as one of the wealthiest proprietors. In 1643 she married Capt. John Astwood they settled in Milford, Connecticut. Capt. Astwood died in London in 1654. She died in Milford in 1669.

Sylvester Baldwin died on Board Ship "Martin" at sea in June or July of 1638. He belonged to the "New Haven Companey." His widow and family settled with the rest of the Company in New Haven. In 1643, the Widow Baldwin was recorded in New Haven, one of the wealthiest proprietors. She married John Eastwood and they settled in Milford, Conn. He was a leading citizen of Milford CT., who died in London as Agent of the Colony. Her WILL was proved 9 Nov 1669. p 298...
